If you have the "distinctive ringing" service from your
telephone company you are probably familiar with the way the service works. If you do not
yet have the service the following information may prove helpful in understanding what the
service is and how the RINGMANAGER II can enhance it.
Most local telephone companies now offer to their customers a service that generically is
known as "distinctive ringing". Depending upon your telephone company, this
service may be known as RingMate, RingMaster, Multi-Ring, Smart Ring, Personalized Ringing
or something similar. This service adds additional telephone numbers to an existing
telephone line and when a caller dials one of these "distinctive ringing"
numbers, the telephones ring...well...distinctively.
Most of the telephone companies will allow you to pay for up to two additional numbers on
your existing line. Each of these numbers has its own unique ringing pattern. The first
"distinctive ringing" pattern the telephone company assigns is usually a
two-ring pattern (we call this a short- short ring). The second "distinctive
ringing" pattern is a three-ring pattern that is some combination of short and long
rings, either a short-short-long pattern or a short-long-short pattern (depending upon the
telephone company).
