For industry standard, high-capacity rewritable optical storage, look no
further than Toshiba's SD-W2002 DVD-RAM drive. With 4.7GB of capacity on a
single-sided disc and 9.4GB on a dual-sided disc, the SD-W2002 provides
unprecedented performance to benefit a range of applications including
multimedia development, backup and data archiving. The SD-W2002 DVD-RAM drive
conforms to all DVD industry standards to ensure media interchangeability with
other DVD-RAM drives.
What is DVD-RAM?
DVD-RAM provides the largest, most durable rewriteable DVD storage format.
The Toshiba SD-W2002 will record to single and double sided DVD-RAM discs providing up to
4.7GB of storage per side (twice the storage of other formats, up to 9.4GB per
disc). Plus, DVD-RAM
discs can be written to over 100,000 times and data written to the discs has a
predicted life of 30 years. These two features make DVD-RAM a superior
format for archiving high resolution artwork, scanned photographs, digital music
collections and for backing up computer data.

DVD-RAM media is available in two cartridge types (Type 1 and Type 2). The
Toshiba SD-W2002 can read and write to both types. A brief explanation of the different DVD-RAM media types
supported by the Toshiba SD-W2002 DVD-RAM drive follows:
- Type 1 DVD-RAM Media - Double Sided disc mounted permanently in a
protective cartridge.
- Type 2 DVD-RAM Media - Single Sided disc in a protective cartridge,
but the disc can be removed from the cartridge for playback in DVD-ROM drives
that have DVD-RAM playback capability.
CD-ROM and DVD-ROM
Boasting a 24X CD-ROM read speed, the SD-W2002 also reads CD-R, CD-RW
and Audio CD formats, so you can use it to replace your computers existing
CD-ROM drive. Additionally the drive reads DVD-ROM discs at 5X speeds.

Easy to Use
VOB InstantWrite enables you to use your DVD-RAM drive just like a hard disk or
floppy disk. You can drag and drop files and create new directories right on
your DVD-RAM. You can even save files from your applications (e.g. word
processing, drawing, etc...) directly to your drive.
