SATA 3Gb/s (SATA II) Controller Cards for
Desktop Computers
SATA 3Gb/s (SATA II) doubles hard drive interface performance from the 1.5 gigabits
per second of the original SATA data rate to 3 gigabits per second (Gbits/sec).
Controller cards with the SATA 3Gb/s interface are
also fully compatible with
the original Serial ATA version (1.5Gb/s SATA I).
PCIe (PCI Express) cards are for desktop Macs and PCs having PCIe
slots. PCIe cards can have multiple data lanes. For example, a four-lane
card will be designated as PCIe x4 (the more lanes, the more bandwidth
possible)
PCI-X cards are for desktop Macs and PCs with PCI or PCI-X slots. PCI-X
cards are 64-bit and are faster than PCI cards (which are 32-bit). PCI-X cards
work in PCI slots, but will achieve full performance in PCI-X slots.
