Fast just
got faster - 6Gb/s Fastest SATA (SATA 3)!
SATA 3 increases data transfer speeds to 6 gigabits per second (6Gb/s), doubling the
3Gb/s transfer rate of the previous Serial ATA version (3Gb/s SATA II). With
SATA 3 performance is no longer held back by the
Serial ATA 3Gb/s protocol. 6Gb/s SATA 3 controller cards maximize SATA 3 HDDs
(and SATA I and II ) and SSD (solid state drive) speeds to achieve maximum bandwidth possible.
Controller cards with the SATA 3 6Gb/s interface are
also fully compatible with
the earlier Serial ATA versions (1.5Gb/s SATA I and 3Gb/s SATA II).
PCIe (PCI Express) controller cards are for adding the SATA 3 6Gb/s interface to desktop Macs and PCs having PCIe
slots. PCIe cards can have multiple data lanes. For example, a four-lane
SATA 3 card will be designated as PCIe x4 (the more lanes, the more bandwidth
possible)
